Career as Company Secretary - CS course

The profession of Company Secretary (CS) is regulated in India by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI)Company Secretary is a prestigious career option which is  financially rewarding  and carries high level of job satisfaction.The students can join the course after 10+2 and has to undergo following three stages to pursue the  Course:

Foundation Programme
Executive Programme
Professional Programme

Foundation Programme  can be pursued by 10+2  pass students of Arts, Science or Commerce stream.

The Student who joins the Course after Graduation has to undergo following two  stages of the CS course:
Executive Programme
Professional Programme

Executive Programme can be pursued by a Graduate of all streams except Fine Arts.

 Professional Programme can be pursued only after clearing the Executive Programme of CS Course. The students are also required to undergo Practical Training  for about 15 months which a student may start after passing the Executive  Programme.  

Admission to the CS Course is open throughout the year.  Examinations are held twice a year in June and December.
Cut off dates for admission to CS course are as under:

For Foundation Programme
31st March for appearing in December Examination  in same year
30th September for June Examination next year
For  Executive Programme
28th February for December Exams in the  same
31st August  for June Exam next year

After qualifying Professional Examination and on successful completion of training a candidate is admitted as an Associate Member of the ICSI and can use the letters ACS after his/her name i.e. Associate Company Secretary. After becoming a member of ICSI, he/she shall be eligible to be appointed as Company Secretary of a Company as per the  provisions of the Companies Act, 1956.
